Portlet types


What is a portlet?

Portlets are a functionality utilised across Haiku websites, which allow the user to place different types of content in the various sections in which they are required. A brief description of each portlet type is as follows;

Upcoming events portlet

The upcoming events portlet allows you to create a section on a webpage to automatically show all of the upcoming events in a feed. You can also filter the content of the portlet to a specific category.

Embed portlet

The embed portlet is designed for you to be able to embed different types of media from different providers, for example a Google Map, a YouTube video, or a podcast from the Oxford Podcasts website.

Static text portlet

The rich text portlet is for adding a section of text that you wish to use rich text formatting on. You will be able to add titles, images and other media, as well as using other rich text fields available when creating other web content.

Latest news portlet

The latest news portlet allows you to create a section on a webpage to automatically show all of the latest news in a feed. You can also filter the content of the portlet to a specific category.

Latest publications portlet

The latest publications portlet shows a list of the publications on the website in chronological order by publication date.

Our team portlet

The team listing portlet is for adding a section displaying specific profiles to the webpage. For example, key contacts related to the content.

The navigation portlet is for listing a number of items of content from the same section, to allow a user to navigate to sub content of a section.

Selected items portlet

The Selected items portlet is used for displaying links to multiple items of content from multiple sections and different content types. You can add any item of content from any section of your website into this portlet. The portlet is customisable and allows various different layouts and options to manipulate how you display the information.

 Social Icons portlet

The social icons portlet, allows you to add in social media icons to advertise to users that they can follow you on your chosen social media channels.

Blog portlet

The blog portlet allows you to create a section on a webpage to automatically show all or some of the blog posts on your website in a feed.

Collection portlet

A collection portlet is an automatically populating portlet that will constantly keep itself up to date with the content that you would like to show on it so that you do not have to make manual updates. The collection portlet is able to aggregate multiple different types of content from across your website. For example, you may wish for the portlet to pull in all items of content that are tagged with a specific category on your website.

Static Text portlet

The static text tile is for adding a section of text that you wish to use rich text formatting on. You will be able to add titles, images and other media, as well as using other rich text fields available when creating other web content.

Browse groups portlet

The browse groups portlet is used to add a navigation to a specific or variety of research groups, which exist elsewhere on the website.

Browse themes portlet

The browse groups portlet is used to add a navigation to a specific or variety of research themes, which exist elsewhere on the website.

Categories portlet

The categories portlet is used for adding a view of, and links to groups of items hosted on the website, categorised by their content type and taxonomy reference.

OxTalks portlet

The OxTalks portlet is used for adding a section which links to externally hosted, OxTalk events and seminars.

Projects portlet

The projects portlet is used for adding a section which displays specific information regarding projects to the page, as well as providing links to said projects.

RSS feed portlet

The RSS feed portlet is used for adding an RSS feed to a cover page or webpage.

Search box portlet

The search box portlet is used for adding a ‘Keywords’ search box to a webpage.

Similar items portlet

The similar items portlet is used to display similar items to the content on the webpage the portlet is deployed.
