How to create an announcement

The ability to create and publish announcements is governed by a user permission within the roles definitions.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Announcements are located within the content area of the application

  2. This takes you to a list of all of the announcements across the platform which have already been created and saved. This will be a mixture of ones that are currently published, scheduled for future publishing or expired and by default are sorted by the date which they were created.


  3. Click the green new button at the top of this page to create a new announcement.

     

  4. You are then taken to a page where you can begin to construct which users should see it and how you would like this to appear. The following fields and settings can be applied:
    Announcement title - The title that will be seen by users
    Publish date - The date on which this will become visible to users on their dashboard
    Expiration date - This is an optional setting and if selected will automatically un-publish this (remove from users' dashboards). 
    Allow the user to dismiss the announcement manually - If marked yes then users will be able to remove this from their dashboards. They will still be able to retrieve and view it from their archived announcements.
    Announcement content - This is the content that users will see beneath the title. The first few lines will appear directly on their dashboard and then users will need to click on the title of the announcement to see it in full.
    Please select all roles for whom this announcement will be visible - All users who have the role(s) that you select here will be able to view this announcement
    Please select what relations a user should have in order to view this announcement - All users who have the relation(s) you specify here will be able to view this announcement. If you have specified roles and relations then users must have at least one of the roles selected and at least one of the relations selected in order to view the announcement.
    Please select the user or users who will be able to view this announcement -  All individual users who you select here will be able to view this announcement, regardless of any other role or relation restriction you have applied.


  5. Finally click save to prepare this announcement for publishing. 

     

  6. Published announcements can be manually unpublished at any time by returning to this page and clicking the unpublish button at the top of the page.

  7. The order in which announcements appear to end users can be specified by clicking on the reorder button from the top of the page containing the list of announcements.

     

All announcements appear within the inbox tile on a user's dashboard.
